Star Wars - Cantina Reboot
STEAM recreates a classic, for Spin Master's new game.
This holiday season, Star Wars is re-kindled as a block buster movie, as well as a new Box Busters edition from Spin Master Toys. Steam was selected to bring a classic Star Wars scene back to life, to promote the premiere of this exiting toy brand.
Steam director Scott Bryant, teamed with Lucasfilm and Tom Spina Creature Designs to recreate the infamous Star Wars Cantina scene, in a clever spin of the battle between Han Solo and a dark opponent. Shot in the classic western "showdown" style, the smoky entrance of our hero stops the cantina aliens in a "record scratch" moment.
Careful production research and 3D pre-visualization, ensured that the genre's accuracy was preserved.. We were prohibited to show an actual bar (since it was a kid's spot).. So, we created up-lit "conversation" pods as an alternative.. Disney's response to the spot was very gratifying, "Wow, It looks like the movie".
We pulled out every stop to create the most cinematic results for the spot.. Shot on an Arri Alexa Mini by DP Tristan Nyby, the spot really came alive.. Along with an amazing and enthusiastic cast of creatures, humanoids and young actors, the Star Wars spirit ignited on set and screen one more time. And gave a lot of Star Wars fans, a perfect chance for a very unique selfie!
